High Demand for Irish Beef In France

The Irish beef sector is highly export oriented and witnessing an increase in demand.  Data from Central Statistics Office in 2023 shows that Ireland exports 8.4 tonnes of bovine meat for every tonne imported.

Moreover, this Summer’s 2024 Olympics and Paralympics held in Paris, is set to attract millions of visitors maintaining meat consumption over the upcoming months.

Relaxation of the cost-of-living crisis across Europe seems to have prompted un uptick in demand again for high-quality meat, with Irish beef being a top choice known for its focus on quality, sustainability, and traceabilityFurthermore, the UK Landbridge remains optimal route for fresh produce in and out of Ireland to/from Northern Europe.

France has seen a 5% reduction in beef produce the past two years and is set to fall by a further 1.2% this year (Groupe Economie du Bétail GEB (Institut de l’Elevage) (2024).  This decrease in production has seen an increase of meat imports to France to compensate for the decline in slaughtering.

HANNON Transport continue to see strong demand for transport of Full Load (FTL) and Groupage (LTL) meat consignments from Ireland to France and wider Benelux, both from current long-standing customers and on-boarding new customers from large exporters to small-medium sized companies. High-quality beef produce remains attractive to French consumers, giving Irish producers a competitive advantage as they are poised to meet demand with their premium products.

Irish Beef Exports Thrive in the French Market

The Irish meat export sector is highly export orientated with 90% Irish beef exports sent to the EU marketplace, including major countries, France, Germany, and Sweden.  We’ve witnessed a substantial increase in the volume of both Full Load (FTL) and Groupage (LTL) shipments of Irish bovine meat exports (Commodity Group 0201 “Meat of bovine animals, fresh or chilled”) destined for the French market.

Irish Beef, recognised for superior quality and taste receives high demand in France. French importers and consumers value grass-fed meat.  This is supported by quality feeding grounds across Irish fields for cattle contributing to their health and wellbeing.  Irish beef natural grazing and nutritional diversity successfully contributes to the rich flavourful profile of Irish meat.  The market often favours low volume, high-quality groupage consignments, catering to the preferences of French consumers who prioritise premium food products.

Relaxation of the cost-of-living crisis across Europe seems to have prompted un uptick in demand for high-quality meat and Irish beef in particular and prompted importers to search for reliable sources of quality food products.  Irish beef is a consistent favourite, boasting strong sustainability credentials and consumer appeal.  This relaxation has sparked a significant return in demand within France highlighting a huge opportunity for growth in the Irish meat export market for 2024.
